Ingredients

2 pieces of soaked codfish1 large onion, chopped4 cloves of garlic, chopped2 tablespoons olive oil2 carrots1/2 savoy cabbage1 can of diced tomatoes4 bay leaves1/2 bunch of parsley1 teaspoon sweet paprika1 tablespoon bell pepper pasteA pinch of red pepper flakesSalt to taste17.5 to 21 ounces (500 to 600g) cooked white beans

Get Portuguese ingredients

Preparation

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat, add the chopped onion and cook until the onion softens.
  2. Add the chopped garlic, diced tomatoes, and sliced carrots (into rounds or half-moons).
  3. Pour in 1 cup of water.
  4. Chop the savoy cabbage into pieces and add to the pot once it starts boiling.
  5. Add the bay leaves, tied bunch of parsley, sweet paprika, bell pepper paste, red pepper flakes, and salt.
  6. Adjust the water if necessary and let it boil for 10 minutes.
  7. Cut the codfish into pieces (do not remove the skin or bones, as they add flavor).
  8. Add the codfish to the pot and boil for another 5 minutes.
  9. Add the cooked white beans and cook for another 5 minutes.
  10. Serve with white rice.
