Portuguese sweet bread, "Massa Sovada," is a beloved traditional bread originating from Portugal, particularly the Azores. This bread is characterized by its slightly sweet flavor, soft texture, and a golden-brown crust. It’s often enjoyed during holidays, particularly Easter, but is also a staple in many Portuguese households year-round.

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup (4 oz) shortening
  • 5 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 15 eggs (at room temperature)
  • 5.5 pounds all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Vegetable shortening for greasing cake pans (approximately 6 teaspoons)
  • 3 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cup warm water

Teresa, these pans are similar but a bit expensive, if you can find cheaper, good, sweet bread pans from amazon.
